![]() ![]() | So I've had 3DS Max sitting here on my machine a few weeks now, and I've opened it several times, with and without tutorials in front of me, with the intent of diving in and starting to play with it... but I've yet to really DO anything. I get lost in playing with the bells and whistles, and want to jump ahead and try to make something but somehow, I can't get excited about making a 3-D teapot on a table. So... any suggestions, hints, challenges, inspirations? I'll be darned if I went to all the trouble of getting this... and don't use it. Help me out! Okay... try this one... what was your very first 3D project that you thought was worthing hitting 'Save' on?

![]() ![]() | See, I knew there was a reason that I like you. When I decided to learn how to knit, I skipped the patterns and designed my own sweater, complete with Aran patterns and a circular collar. THAT's what I want to do with 3D - I'm totally hopeless and I'll never really learn right because I don't have the patience to go through all the tedious stuff like moving the cameras around and learning to make a plane and position an object on top of it... I wanna jump right into making ART (yeah, that pretentious word).

| Member Enthusiast | My first project ever was a Nissan 350Z in Lightwave 3D. I never ever completed it though cause I moved on to 3D Studio Max. My first comp was, (u guessed it)... a teapot. I guess we all go through the teapot at once, lol. Architecture is quite easy, cause most of the time you just have to get the bevelling right, no complex modelling most of the time. Try making simple stuff at first before you really dive into something complex. Learning how the tools work for you is best, so that u cab get used to the interface as well. I haven't had much time to update the 3D resource thread lately but will do so in time, been very busy... Good luck and give a shout if you need more info.

![]() ![]() | Oh, getting paid is /always/ good. Mind you, I'm sitting here looking at people's galleries instead of doing the work that I get paid to do but... yeah. Paid is good. Miss you here, though. Make time for us once in a while.

![]() ![]() | Su-fi, The contest was in the contests thread - I'm outie today, but when I get back, I'll check out DPC, see what they've got going and repost it. Basically - I'll pay a one month membership to DPC - http://www.dpchallenge.com - for one person.. I'd thrown up a one-week contest a while ago, but no one responded at all. Look for a new contest post later today.
