![]() | Have you ever heard of this 3d program? I had the Learners edition or something but there were many downsides like: 1) you can't post it on a website im pretty sure 2) you couldn't really delete anything 3) it wasn't really that complex Does anyone have the full version cuz I'd love to know the features and stuff.

![]() | Maya, as Adobe says, is the world's most powerfully integrated 3D modeling, animation, effects and rendering solution. There's a trial version here http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...&siteID=123112. I'd prefer and recommend using 3d max or something like that though. |

| Member Enthusiast | Maya is excellent if you interested in getting into the film industry. It has excellent features and best of all you can get Pixars Renderman for it. Price-wise is a bit steep unless you really going to use it productively than it it would be an excellent investment. There are also cheaper alternatives out there. Check out the 3D resources thread, I've posted links to the different packages.

| Member Enthusiast | Find some tutorials on box modeling if you can. I learned more from a single box modeling tut than from all of the beginner tutorials about "lathe" and tools like that. Then again, maybe it helped me a lot to have those simple tools under my belt before I started box modeling. Either way, you're not going to make amazing scenes using just the bend and twist modifiers.

| Member Enthusiast | I think you can use any of these programs for whatever you want. The main things is learning how to use one program well.

Both of them can be used for all of the above but Maya seems to be the prefered application when it comes to main stream, I suppose it's because with Maya Unlimited you get the Hair/fur plugin as well as the fluid/particles which are great where as with 3D studio max you have to get outside alternatives (glu3D, Shaghair, simcloth) which could lead to large amounts of money to be spent. Personally I think that Maya is better than 3ds Max, although I use Max more often (that's because of the renderer options - brazil, vray, etc). Both of them come standard with MentalRay which is also an industry standard nowadays. Overall Maya is an excellent package IMO.
