Default Favorite Icon in Address Bar

ok first off...

EXAMPLE

Create your image, 16px X 16px

Save as a 16Bit GIF file.

use a app like IrfanView to save as a .ICO file. Name it: favicon.ico This is a Windows Icon File btw.

now, upload it to your root folder. this is usually called one of the following: www, public_html, html, htdoc or root.

now in your main index page add this in the head section:

Code:
<LINK href="http://www.yourdomain.com/favicon.ico" type=image/ico rel=icon>
<LINK href="http://www.yourdomain.com/favicon.ico" type=image/ico rel="shortcut icon">
of course change the yourdomain to you actual domain. it should in theory show the icon in the address bar and tab on your taskbar for any page you visit in your site. Atleast it does for me.

there you have it. If it doesnt show at first, reload your browser.

works in FF, MZ, IE so far, havent tested any others

It's important to note that the XML standard which XHTML is based off of is case-sensitive, so the tags <LINK, and the proper <link are interpreted as different tags. So it would be proper, although not necessary if you are not sticking to the xhtml standard, for your tag names to be lower-case.

Default Re: Favorite Icon in Address Bar

I have been a member of this message board for about 2 years now under a different username. The e-mail address that I used is no longer active, so I could not get my password resent to me. I registered under this username. I don’t know If anyone else here can remember, but this site still uses the favicon from the old blue and white layout. I guess you can say before they merged with sinjix.
