Default Fresh Install

Ok well this is the idea. When i format and start a fresh copy of XP pro, which i havent done in a while, I go through these steps to keep my PC personalized. Those sterps are as follows:

1)Set my display settings to 1024*768
2)Set my taskbar settings to show quick launch
3)Set my start menu to show my control panel as a menu option
4)Set my mouse to fastest and enable smart move
5)Get my super CD which has all of the starter software titles any1 would need and install:
1. XP !Plus
2. All my norton programs
3. All my Adobe programs
4. SP1
5. All my office programs
6. Dreamweaver MX
7. My firewalls
8. Kazaa-lite

Now this is just what i do. These are my personal preferences. Tell us what u do when fresh installinjg.

Sounds like your doing alot of downloading. Maybe what you should do now is put those on disk for future fresh installs.

We all know companys come out with updates and new releases, but whats to say the version you have and burned to your disk isn't going to be the latest version available by the time you do another format. Another thing about that is you can always down-load the new updates and install them instead of DLing a whole new version or whatever. Sometimes updates are very small, but do a world of difference for your app.

I only reformat when it's required. Last time I reformatted was 3 years ago, now it doesn't take more than 3 years to update a program. And I'm not talking about the mainstream progs here..i'm talking about sharewares and small apps. And instead of updating, why dont you just download the newest version? You're saying you'd rather install the non-updated program that you burned..and THEN get the updates? Seems too much work to me.

Default Well this is what I do when I fresh install

use minimal built in windows programs only the must programs
dont use any p2p programs they only crowd HD space
maker sure you have UT on there with all the files you need to make the gaming ejoyable
set screen res to 1024x768 32bit color
install the latest drivers for your chipset and other hardware
dont use demos unless you have a serial to enable FV
and last dont let computer noobs use your pc they always find someway to mess it up and well we all know what comes next.

I definitely get rid of all the services i don?t need. Disabling indexing on HDs is a very important tweak.

My oh my how things have changed. I really can?t stand Symantec anymore and don?t really like cluttering my PC with too many apps anymore. The essentials are really what i have on here now. The most important thing to me is my speed tweaks. I do those before any other customizations. Still gotta have kazaa-lite although ive been experiencing some difficulties with it. I use Shareazaa as well.
