| PHP Guru Casual Browser | just addition to the above... not sure if anyones noticed, but googles had a makeover - very slight changes. Two new searches have come out of beta testing. Froogle (product searches) http://froogle.google.com and a new advanced search type "defintions" in the search box type something you want to define prepended by define: i.e. 'define:dictionary' happy searching ;) |

| Administrator Enthusiast | Of course - google seems to be going from strength to strength - for example - the new GMail, though still in beta is a helluva lot quicker than either yahoo or hotmail, doesn't add ads to your mails, and gives you a 1000MB inbox, in addition to searching your mail!! Funny how quickly Yahoo! expanded my email box to 250MB after MSN did it - they really dont want to fall behind, do they? Gives people like me a sum total of 1 and a half gigs of email space. Question has to be asked - do we need that much? |

| Sexual Harassment Panda Aficionado | Yes G-Mail doesn?t have ad banners, but do have textual ads. No i don't think anyone needs a mailbox that big. The whole G-Mail thing i think was the first blatant attack on Yahoo!'s strengths since this whole war started actually. Sure Google has the advantage of not bombarding users with big ad banners, but i think the important thing is weather ADVERTISERS themselves rather have a text ad or banner ad displayed. This might mean Yahoo will have the advantage of gaining more support from big name companies who want to advertise. We don't know what Microsoft has up their sleeves either. The giant who tends to be late, but hits the hardest. |

| Administrator Enthusiast | Thanks Dan, When I was referring to ads, I meant tail-end ads at the end of your mails - like the "GET YAHOO MESSENGER NOW!" things that Yahoo! adds. Now - the advertisers may well prefer large banner advertisements, but I personally, as a consumer look at text ads, I dont go to a banner's url - especially not the trick windows and the like. Also - look at just how many people are using google's AdSense - I recently signed up for it - Adverts from one central base on google are displayed on literally hundreds of sites - hence making the advertisement more widely spread from google's centre... But this is not a discussion about ads, is it? We could talk for ages about ad revenues, and optimum placement, content and the like. As for hotmail! dont even get me started - opening windows and the like. Well, 'nuff said |
