![]() | Broken links are not good for spiders to find. They keep the spiders from indexing your site 100%. So here is a software that I use and have used for awhile. It searches your site and list all broken links that you have. This link verification is done on "normal" links, images, frames, plug-ins, backgrounds, local image maps, style sheets, scripts and java applets. Once the software is done searching your site it gives you a detailed report. I would recommend checking your links on a regular basis. Here is a link to the software I use: Xenu's Link Sleuth Hope this helps someone out.. |

| Member Enthusiast | I have used this software too. It's great if you have a sitemap on your site. For one reason or another... moved pages, deleted thread, etc... a sitemap can become outdated. Spiders LOVE sitemaps, so you want to keep that baby up-to-date as much as humanly possible. I highly recommend the above software! |

![]() | Google's is good but it might take a day or so for it to find it depending on if your site has been crawled. This software does it anytime you want it to. No need to wait for Google. So that is one reason I find the software a big PLUS. |

![]() | Yes broken links can hurt you, if the links stay broken for a while. I can't see you getting hurt for having a broken link for only a few days. I think even SE's know that not everyone can fix it right away. The SE just keeps checking that link and if it isn't fixed over a period of time then yes it can have an effect on your PR. When a SE finds a broken link it gets directed to a 404 error page. The SE will then leave your site because it reached a 404 error page. **SE= Search Engine |
