Great marketing

I just got an e-mail from someone interested in a link exchange with us. I thought what they sent me was a great marketing strategy for a few reasons.

It did not immediately strike me as spam
They talked about our sites having similar topics
The e-mail did not contain any images, so it didn’t really strike me as a mass produced message that slipped through my junk e-mail filter.
They talked about a SPECIFIC thread on our forums

In any-case I wanted you guys to read the e-mail they sent me.

He was right. This is what came up when i did a search for CSS instead of table on yahoo.

I could have sworn that I'd commented n this when you first posted it, Sinjix, but that must have been during the time that something was eating my posts. That really is great marketing - a step up from just writing to someone and saying 'hey, I linked to you - can you link to me?'

In fact, one of the most effective web marketing techniques is to make a commitment to yourself to write to add at least five links a day to your links/friends page, and send out a letter like that. It's a great way to get incoming links.

I expected this book to have more meat. In truth, it is just a bunch of 'successful' people tooting their own horns. In some ways, I guess that is the point of the book. But, the overall quality of the 'stories' and suggestions is poor. It is just another book on self-promotion and not a very good one at that. Save your money for something else.
